Le "Lac des cygnes" is for many synonymous with ballet. This romantic tale about the young prince Siegfried, who falls in love with the swan princess Odette and wants to free her from the evil spell cast by Duke Redbeard, is a story about the power of true love.
This ballet piece is part of the standard repertoire of all the major companies. The Allegro Moderato of the swan dances in Act 2, in particular, has been the subject of countless parodies in Lev Ivanov's choreography, and is therefore known as the "danse des quatre petits cygnes" far beyond the ballet-loving public. In short: a brilliant work by a brilliant composer that has been attracting audiences for centuries.
